Deviya and Dev have been sweethearts ever since they were children. They grew up believing that they would marry each other in the future. But fate had other plans for them. When Deviya had come of age to marry to she spoke to her parents and told them how she wanted to marry Dev. Her parents laughed at her immature request. In their mind Dev was not worthy of her. He didn't come from a rich family and they believed that he wouldn't be able to care for her. After that, they banned her from seeing him. They thought the less she saw of him, the sooner she would forget about him.

She didn't though. The the more they restrained her, the more rebellious she became. She continued to sneak around and see Dev. That is until her parents caught her. They warned her again not to see the boy, but she refused to listen to them. She was truly in love with him and had made up her mind as him being her future. When her parents ran out of ideas on how to prevent her from seeing the boy, they decided they would arrange her marriage. They set up her marriage with a rich prince from their village and married her by force.

When Dev heard of the news, he was devastated. He could not believe he lost her so quickly. He fell into depression and took up drinking. He spent his night's at the prostitute home watching the dancers seduce the other men. Dev felt that he had no reason to live anymore now that his love was gone from his life. At the prostitute home, he ran into a courtesan named Kaminee. He spent all his time with her in order to fill the void in his heart. Throughout all their meetings, Kaminee fell in love with him. But he really didn't want anything to do with her. While this was going on Deviya was going crazy now that she had been separated from Dev and was now with someone she did not want to be with. She tried many times to leave the palace they lived in, but her husband banned her. Dev vowed that he would wait for her, but it was of no use. The drinking and depression had killed him. He died at the stair case of her palace, waiting for her......
